Leap Day Sunrise

The colors were magnificent.

These photos are all taken with a variety of camera settings.

Papa Hen spotted this fat-cheeked fluff ball.

Five Hens in the Shed

A mild weekend allowed the chickens some much needed time in the yard.  And the shed.

Little Red Hen

We spent a lovely weekend in Salida and enjoyed a loaf of freshly baked bread from a local bakery.

In For the Night

Around five o'clock I rounded up the chickens for the evening.  They were performing their various chicken duties around and about: scratching, pecking, nibbling, and pooping.  Occasionally they will run or squawk depending on what they see around them.  At round-up time the young ones and Weezy run for the coop because they know (I think) that they are getting treats.  Bill (despite her great appetite) and BB slowly meander, stressing about snow, until I chase them.

Then they get going.

Bill is Stranded

That's what Papa Hen told me yesterday afternoon when he came to the back door and asked for the camera.  Chickens are not fond of snow, maybe because they are snow blind.  We don't know how Bill managed to get herself stranded in the middle of our still-snow yard.

With Papa Hen's help, Bill escaped.  Phew.
