Honker is Home

We flew, we drove, and we arrived home with 9 week old Honker Bonker this past Sunday.  He seemed like a seasoned traveler, sleeping the majority of the way in our rental car.  Papa Hen and I wish we had gotten more sleep over this whirlwind weekend.  The chickens and Honker have seen each other and nothing more.

Here are some pictures from the last couple of days.

More of the same

It is the second day of our Spring Snow Frenzy!  The snow accumulated last night while we slept cozily tucked between flannel sheets.  Here are pictures of the fence and bird feeder similar to yesterday's, but you will notice...more snow!

And here are our pretty chickies!

We have been hearing news of our puppy.  Here are some things for you to know about him.  He is Mr. Personality, a bit of an escape artist, and has earned himself several nicknames.  We will be bringing him home next weekend.  That is when you will formally meet Honker.  Isn't he adorable?

Snow Storm Frenzy

Mama Hen departed California in a snow storm frenzy.  Snow was coming to Colorado, all flights will be cancelled, and you'll be stranded they said, so get home while you can.  Mama Hen followed the masses back to Denver on turbulent flights through Santa Ana winds, rainy skies, and crowded airports.  A late night drive home pelted her little car with rain turned to coaster size snow flakes.

Mama Hen was happy to be home because she missed Papa Hen and the Red Door Coop Hens.  All was well at our little homestead.  Papa Hen's new fence looks pretty in the snow.

The bird feeder has provided constant entertainment for the local squirrels.  We are hoping that our puppy's arrival might coincide with the departure of the squirrels.
The chickens were toasty warm in their draft-free coop, happy to take care of chicken business in the straw.

Tulips get the short end of the stick every year.  They always start to bloom and are then squashed in the spring snow.  Hopefully, they will survive and show off their colors in a front yard parade.

And there is our old friend and protector, the Gnome.

Merry Christmas, Papa Hen!

Papa Hen used his Christmas gift for the first time this evening.  Lawn mower inauguration.

Fence Frustrations?

Fence heaven for the humans.  Fence frustrations for the chickens.  Here, you will see what I mean:

Before.

During.

After.

And then there were two.

We will probably make the bottom frame of the fence a bit taller so that the chickens will be protected from the puppy.

Fence Posts

Papa Hen dug and dug this past Sunday and got every fence post in the ground.  We will hang the gate and attach the wire cloth this coming weekend.

The chickens don't know anything about it.

A Fence

Papa Hen is building a fence
to separate the chickens
from him.
He will arrive towards the end of April.
He is a Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier.
