Around the Yard

The afternoon was sunny, breezy, and comfortable.  A perfect summer day.
Even the four-legged fur ball enjoyed it.

Between the Garden Beds

The chickens spent a long afternoon in the chicken yard yesterday.  The soil is moist and wormy between the garden beds and that's one of the places they love to scratch.  You might see a couple of green tomatoes on the ground, a "gift" to the chickens after they had already pecked them while still part of the plant.

Our girl Bill, the matriarch, didn't care to spend time between the beds.  She preferred a spot in the sun.
The sunflower will show its face soon.
Some of our other sunflowers are starting to peek their faces out too.  In the background is our compost bin.
This lavender plant is one of my favorites.  The bees like it too.

And here is Mr. Honk-Honk, ready for a hike!

July is Flying By

The Red Door Coop chickens are doing well.  They spend the majority of the day in their cozy coop.   In the late afternoon and evening the chickens enjoy an hour or two in the chicken yard.  This morning they were quietly managing all the many tasks of backyard chickens.  The four photos were taken in one minute.  Chickens move fast.

Jim gave us a nice egg this morning.  You can also see the golf ball reminder of where to put the eggs.

Papa Hen repaired the whirligig.  The sails are now sailing.

The garden beside Red Door Coop is looking good.  Buzzing bees and fluttering butterflies visit often.

Honker is getting to know his new bed.
