The Joyful Dog

Honker enjoys the field at our local elementary school.

Without Bill

Our oldest hen, Bill, left us peacefully yesterday.  She was at least six years old give or take a little, a bit on the chubola side in her older years, and hasn't been herself in a few weeks.

As a younger hen she was the best layer and squawked loudly and consistently...and to be honest, annoyingly!  In the early morning, her voice drove us batty (and probably the neighbors too, but they were too kind to complain).

We will miss her squawk in Red Door Coop.

Here is the old girl with her chicken family.

Through the Coop Door

We caught the chickens mid-meal.

BB has a mouthful.

Brian is very photogenic.  I'm talking about the chicken here.

Here's Jimmy.

Find Happiness Where You Can

There is Happiness in Red Door Coop.

The new and old chickens are adapting well.  We don't know if it is the temperaments of the new chickens, the 2-week long getting-to-know-you period, or just dumb luck, but this has been the easiest transition we've had adding new birds to the flock.

Here are the new chickens.  David is on the left and Brian on the right.

Brian.

Seven in the coop.

Red Door Coop Goes to the Dog Park (without the chickens)

We took Honker to the Chatfield Dog Park today.
He made many friends.
He swam.
He ran. A lot.

We saw this.
