The Sounds of Last Night

We woke in the night (around 1:00 am) to this noise.

This is what we saw.

And this morning there was still marble sized hail all over the yard and in the plants.  Our poor vegetable seedlings were damaged pretty badly (even the one grown by one of my favorite students).  I'm afraid that a garden that started late may be even later now. 

 The poor compost bin lids were holy (ha!) this morning, full of holes! 

But don't worry, Dad, the whirligig made it through just fine.

Tonight we will be armed and dangerous, putting every tarp we own over every plant that may be in hail's (harm's) way.
