Bye-Bye Bruiser

It's been an eventful week at Red Door Coop.  If you follow this blog, you know that Bruiser and the other girls (except Bill who seems to get along with everyone) have not been friendly to one another.  We've been managing this situation since February and the summer plan was for Mama Hen, while home from school, to get the chickens back to being friends.  Well, grudges seem to last in chicken world.  I've attempted to get them all back together again a few times, to no avail.  Chicken apologies have not been accepted.  There is no peace in the coop.
Whenever I put all the birds together, it seems as though Bruiser is the one that causes all the friction.  And it is funny because to we humans, she is the sweetest bird!  Why can't the other chickens see all her wonderful qualities?  Enough anthropomorphizing.  Chickens are animals.

We have had to make the hard decision to re-home Bruiser for the sake of the flock and our own sanity.  We found a family that lives on one acre, has 12 birds, 5 children, and lots of room for chickens to free range.  Sounds like an ideal situation where she will be happy.

Today we are saying good-bye.  It is not easy, but it is better for the flock and for Papa and Mama Hen.  We are worn out with worrying about the birds and the management of who can be together and when.

       We'll miss you Bruiser.

Aww, it could have been worse. She could have gotten the proverbial axe! You found her a good home and that is the best that you could do. Good job! She can roam free to her little chicken heart's content.
